Ok so I went to a cafe to work on my sermon, but I did not realize it was closing 5mins after I arrived, so I went on a little joy ride that ended me up at a guitat shop (odd how that works).
I was peaking around at the typical bla bla fare, until I came across one that looked a little more interesting. I am a bit of a walking encyclopedia when it come to acoustic guitars. This guitar is basically a Martin d-18, but has the diamond neck bump of a D-28.
like so-
Now I live about 10miles from Nazareth PA - home to Martin Guitars. It appeared to me that this was what is called an "employee" guitar. Basically Martin employees in the off time would make guitars out of spare parts, or even buy a kit from martin.
I have seen these types of guitars go for $1200-$4000, and beyond. The one I got is more in the $1200-$1400 range I think. This all hinges on what I can find out about the maker. "Dick Jones 1998 #24" is inscribed on the back spine.
At the least the kit to make this guitar cost $370, plus the finish materials on top.
The guitar was a little banged up, they were asking $250, and I offered $225 and they took it.
My birthday was a few days ago, so this find is a great gift!
