    Truth or Coincidences?

The ladies of the church scheduled a get-together/outing for today at noon. They were to meet at the church, then go out for lunch and fellowship.

Unaware that the ladies had planned this outing, the men at the church scheduled to meet at the church at noon, then go out for lunch and fellowship.

5 men, and 6 ladies showed up at the church around noon. The men had lunch, had a devotional, and talked over the meal. I was one of them, and was home by about 2:15.

It's currently about 4:45, and my wife is now just getting home.

    Truth or coincidence?

You guys all just verified what we (Pete included) have heard for years ... You guys used up your (lesser) daily allotment of words sooner than did the gals!

    Pete, explain something to me:

How did you guys last until 2:15?

From the church, it was about a 10-15 minute ride to and a 10-15 minute ride from the restaurant (we met at the church, and one person drove 4 of us). We didn't leave the church exactly at noon, but a few minutes later. It's about 10 minutes for me from the church back home, so right there is an extra 30-40 minutes.

Add to that the one person who joined us after we were at the restaurant got there after the other 4 of us had just about finished eating, so we stayed there a bit longer than we likely would have since we waited to leave until he was finished eating...

The women are obviously just more "spiritual" than the men!

Well, whatever else is going on, there's apparently a lack of communication between spouses in your church. How many couples were involved in these independent plans other than your wife and you?

Not that my husband and I haven't been in similar situations of not knowing what the other had planned. Just saying...

Sounds like a Groucho Marx talk show, "Give the right answer and win $50."

While my wife and I have fortunately done pretty well in communicating there was one specific time where my parents hadn't managed to communicate something about church...

they drove home separately one Sunday afternoon leaving my brother and me behind.

The 6 women had proportionately far more to talk about than the 5 men. I submit Randy Travis as my proof text for this conclusion.

Well, turnabout's fair play. I too remember once being left at church as a child. More recently, however, into the time when everyone living here had a driver's license but before we all had cell phones, I was left at church as a wife and mother, also because of a lack of communication. As I slipped away from all the good Samaritans still at church who would have gladly offered me a ride and started a pleasant stroll toward home on a beautiful Sunday afternoon I laughed to myself at the question of how long it would take my husband and kids to figure out that no one was in the kitchen producing Sunday dinner. I was about fifteen minutes into the half-hour walk when the designated "search and rescue" team member showed up.

Like that old song, Marian! (don't like everything he sings, but do like that one)

Susan, bet you found the right place. After all, how much can one say about the weather? On the other hand . . . .
