What is your least favorite household chore?

I am dreading unloading the dishwasher right now. Have been for several days. I decided that a good way to procrastinate some more was to ask others what they dread doing the most.

So what is your least favorite?

Re: What is your least favorite household chore?

Well, I had to think about this one for a couple of minutes.

We don't have a dishwasher, and my husband does the dishes. He also mows the lawn, vacuums, cleans the cat boxes, deals with the recycling and trash, and does some of the laundry (I don't mind doing my "half" of the laundry). Neither of us repairs anything. Don't mind dusting. I don't do a lot of weeding, but the chickens like the fresh "salad" so it has its rewards.

I closed my eyes and pictured myself saying, "Really? Didn't I just DO that?" and what came to mind was cleaning the bathtub. It's hard for me physically, and I really have to gear up for it.

After I posted my poll, I thought "why didn't I mention clean the bathroom? I hate that even more???" I think it was cuz I was in such denial over it. I dislike that even more than the dishwasher.

Re: What is your least favorite household chore?

I chose "other" because "all of the above" was not an option.

I love a clean house, but I despise housework. Always have, always will. When Joe and I were both working, the bulk of it fell to me (my kids do CHORES???? Are you KIDDING me????).

Now that he's retired I hardly lift a finger at the house. I will gladly work to pay all the bills and buy all the groceries for the two of us. I skip out of the house on my way to the car every morning, whistling on my drive to work, knowing the stuff I so hate to do is being done by someone else!

Re: What is your least favorite household chore?

Numbers 2, 3, 4, and 6 are equal, with 8 (other) being up there if it includes shoveling snow and cleaning off my desk (or other areas where I have let things stack up over a period of time).

Therefore, I did not vote in the poll, since I could not vote for 5 equal things.

Edit: My reply came up with a Bible Gateway link to the book of Numbers, chapters 2, 3, and 4. Now I may have to go back and read those particular Scriptures to see if there's some hidden Scriptural meaning in the types of things I don't like doing around the house...

This is why I had to choose "other" on the poll. While I don't mind cleaning in the bathroom (I'm prone to obsessively wipe down the sink area and mirror) and acknowledge cleaning toilets as a necessity thanks to a potty training toddler, and a not yet perfect-at-it 5 year old, the tub gets pretty well neglected. I have had knee problems since I was a teen, as well as a left shoulder that can lock and pop frequently (not to be confused with the "pop and lock" style of dance). So the tub, that vile accumulator of grossness, is the bane of my chore doing. Fortunately, in our household we don't keep the cleaners that I had to use when growing up that meant leaning over the tub would also make my eyes burn and gag reflex test its limits. So, that would be my silver lining now.

I hate unloading the dishwasher and I hate putting up laundry. I LOVE to vacuum...instant gratification.

You managed to stretch your procrastination out even longer by the creation of a poll, Susan, since that takes awhile longer than a mere question! Anyway, vacuuming is too noisy, tho' it is better when one is doing it, than if someone else is!

Standing in one spot very long bugs me enough that ~~ missing the dishwasher from out West ~~ I even offered to help get one here! Besides the standing in one spot thing, this could have taken care of a few other issues:

Ironing. My wife told me that if I ever got a job that paid well enough that she didn't have to work she would Iron my clothing. I am still Ironing.

Yeah, vaccuming is the most enjoyable one for me.

I should have mentioned that I hated dusting even more, just didn't think of it.

I hadn't thought of it before but I agree that standing still for a while is partly my reason for not liking doing the dishes as well as ironing. It is not a back issue like it is for you, just boring for me.

Hmmm, well I certainly would not like setting up arrangements for tribal camps, so Numbers 2 is accurate...

Re: What is your least favorite household chore?

I love having a clean house, and I love housework!!!

Now, what I HATE is not having the time to do it!!!

Since I've been working at home for the past 23 years, and working many hours a day, I don't have time to do the housework the way I like to do it. So it is hit and miss. However, when I DO have a few days off and time to spend on the house, I love to make it spotless!!! I take it room by room and clean -- then I sit in that room and enjoy it for a little bit before I move on to the next room!! ha ha ha

Oh sure, I am not a fan of cleaning a toilet -- but I love clean toilets, so I clean them!! I'm not a huge fan of YUCKY type chores, but fortunately I don't have to do those very often, because I try to keep things at a reasonable rate of clean.....LOL

We do have a problem controlling the clutter at our house. Seems like that is a never-ending battle. I mean -- we have two or three blanket throws in our family room to cover up with while watching TV. I would love for those to magically fold themselves at the end of every day. I guess I'd like to magically see the clutter disappear without having to tidy up every day!! ha ha Oh well, we live here, we clutter, we clean up. LOL

I picked dusting as my least favorite chore. You can tell. It's the least often done around here. LOL

Re: What is your least favorite household chore?

I clean the bathtub mostly when I'm in it. I use Barkeeper's friend, and I have a cleaning rag that I drag on the bottom of the tub with my feet -- it also exfoliates my feet!! Then I just bend over and clean the sides and back of the tub. It's easier than getting on my knees, which I cannot do anymore, from the outside of the tub and doing it. Plus I have a shower head that comes off and has a hose attached to it, so I can actually spray all around the tub to rinse it once I'm finished cleaning it. It works okay for me and keeps me off my knees on the hard tile. I do the same with the other shower, which is a walk-in shower. Hey, whatever works, I always say!!! ha ha

Re: What is your least favorite household chore?

OH -- PLUS -- I also dry the shower with a white towel after every shower, so cleaning my shower and tub is a snap, because there are no water stains to deal with. I have a pretty white towel just outside my shower, and after I turn off the water, I use that towel and dry the entire shower and tub, plus the plumbing fixtures. It keeps everything sparkly and does not allow for much dirt to build up. It takes all of 2 minutes.

I don't use a squeegee (spelling??) because the towel gets everything drier than a squeegee does. No drips.

My wife and I had the "who does what" 30+ years ago, and it's worked well for us. I hate picking up clutter, doing laundry, cleaning bathrooms, and a few other things. She hates vacuuming, mopping, dusting, mowing lawn and some other things. And so we each agreed to do what the other really didn't like. Has worked for us.

I just asked my husband (who does much, if not most, of the "housework"), "What's your least favorite chore?" Once he was assured it wasn't a trick question, his honest answer was, "They're all the same to me."

No, I'm quite the lazy person......it's easier to do it after the shower than to wait for it to become really messy and then have to scrub to clean it!! ha ha It took me a few years to finally learn that lesson!!! ha ha

Plus, I am the one who installed this new tile, and I want it to stay sparkly!!! ha ha

Now, the dusting.......well, I haven't learned how to make that more efficient yet. I mean, if you dust every single week, it still takes just as much time as if you dust once a month. I am afraid to admit that I sometimes do the latter.....

So, I'm not really the expert cleaner -- I said I love a clean house, but I don't always have one.....I've even been known to hire a housecleaner here and there, because I love clean baseboards and clean walls, clean window tracks, clean window sills -- but I don't always have time to keep them as nice as I like them -- so, once in a while I treat our house to the experts!!

Someday when I am retired, the house will stay nice all the time. I really do enjoy cleaning when I have the time. It just makes me feel so good to accomplish it!!!

    me again.

Re: What is your least favorite household chore?

I probably should add that I have a wonderful husband who helps me keep things picked up. We both do laundry, we both keep the kitchen clean, we both vacuum. We decided that if we're both going to work, we both need to help out around the house. Of course I do most of it, because he also does the outside chores. It's pretty evenly divided around here......except the cars. He does all of the car repairs, so he's got me beat when it comes to upkeep work!!!

Funny, it's much easier now that the kids are not at home.

And speaking of kids -- our son had an excellent role model. He's married now, and they just bought their first home. He has taken over all of the fix-it jobs around the house, and he is doing a great job!! His wife just told me yesterday that it is so nice to be able to just say "Tyler, this needs to be fixed" and he does it!! ha ha I'm thankful for a husband who demonstrated to his kids that housework and upkeep was not "woman's work." I think my daughter-in-law appreciates that, as well.

Refreshing thread -- thanks for starting it!!

    I'll shut up now. LOL

We do the same. Now for the record, the deal is that the last one in the shower dries it. Which in 99% of the cases, is Hannie. Honour to whom honour is due. We don't have a tub anymore, only a walk-in shower.

That's our deal with making the bed -- last one out of the bed makes it!!! However, I must say that it is worth it to get to sleep in to be the one who has to make it!!! ha ha ha

Beautiful, Hans!!! Love the shower head!!

Here is a picture of ours -- I took this with my phone to send to my kids, so it's not a great picture!!!

I did the tile work myself!! Bert helped with the grouting, and Lindsey helped clean off the excess grout. But I did the tile setting. It was just something I wanted to try!!! It turned out quite nice!! However, it helped me to understand why tile setters charge so much!!! ha ha After that experience, we hired the tile setter for our kitchen backsplash!! ha ha
