NazNet History -- Who was the first GS to post on NazNet?

Just for fun, I am going to start a thread with a number of questions from NazNet history. The first is "Who was the first GS to post on NazNet?"

Answer -- Don't look until you have voted.

The first General Superintendent to post on NazNet was Eugene Stowe. I can't tell you the exact date, but it was back in the Prodigy days. He had not seen a personal computer and I demonstrated mine to him. He gave me permission to post for him. It was a general greeting.

My computer caused him a bit of a problem. I was the recording secretary for the Dallas District when Dr. Stowe was the G.S. I put all of the statistical information on my computer and put the monitor in front of Dr. Stowe. As each pastor gave his report, I made the monitor display the statistics. From the congregation side, the monitor looked just like a tv.

After several pastors had reported, Dr. Stowe said, "I know that some of you are wondering about this tv. Today was a really important session of As The World Turns and I didn't want to miss it." He had a good laugh, then explained that it wasn't a tv. Several of the delegates stopped listening before he explained the truth. Word went out all across the Dallas District that Dr. Stowe was watching tv during the pastor's reports. I would imagine that there are still Nazarenes on the Dallas district that believe it to be true.

Well, I am surprised. Had Talmadge's name been on there, I would have voted for him.

As to historical trivia, for a while Dr. Porter used a restricted forum on NazNet. As he was having lunch at our place after he spoke in our church, I explained to him how he could access NazNet and use that forum. It's a small world.

Isn't that what secretaries are for?

So, Dave, do you have a record of, say, the first 5 GS's to post on NazNet?

Just from memory, I recall that Eugene Stowe, Jim Diehl and Jerry Porter have posted. I don't recall that any others have posted here.

This could be the begining of "Naznet-Gate" ... as we break into Naznet headquarters to raid the archives for vital information stored at Hans' home under the Jerry Porter restricted Naznet site. All the proposed revisions to article X are stored there.
