Our own Boise competitor, Kristen Armstrong

repeats with a gold medal winning performance in the Ladies Bicycling time trial competition. Not bad for 38 years old. She turns 39 August 11. Oldest lady cyclist to win gold.

Certainly pleased to see Missy Franklin doing so well in her competitition.

Apparently Armstrong is a good last name if you're a cyclist... and for those who are wondering Kristen Armstrong who is one of the best female cyclists ever is not related to Lance Armstrong who is one of the best male cyclists ever. To make things even more confusing, Lance's ex-wife is also named Kristen.

She also broke her collarbone two months ago.

Twenty two year old Taylor Phinney, on the men's side, finished fourth in both the road race and the time trial - really good foundation for the future.

Kristen broke her collar bone right here in Boise in the first time trial of the Exergy sponsored tour. Boise corporately held its breath when that happened but were relieved when she made a speedy recovery and was back on her bike a week later and was named to the team. Too bad she got delayed by a crash in the road race.

This lasts Saturday our older son, Jay, took us to lunch and on his phone/camera apparatus showed us a picture of Kristen standing next to himself and he told us she had let him hold her gold medal for awhile.

Late local news last night revealed that Kristen Armstrong's bikes had been put on display at some Bicycle Museum in Europe and were to be shipped back to her when the display term was finished but when she and Joe went to pick them up at the Boise airport all they found were empty bike crates. So someone has stolen her road racing bike and her time trial bike each worth $30,000. I sure hope the insurance covers the loss.

Thanks for that update, Jim. What a frustrating and difficult loss. Such a heartless act for someone to take such things from an athlete who sacrifices so much for greatness.
