    Another report shows ignorance

The Bloomberg TV had this headline:

What Happens When a Battle Ship Hits an Oil Tanker?

The story was about a destroyer that hit an oil tanker. Obviously, the reporter doesn't know that the Battle Ship was a particular type of Navy ship and that none of them are still active.

I'm only half an idiot. I knew that battle ship was a particular type of Navy ship but I didn't know that none of them are still active! Learn something new every day...

I was in an ARG (Amphibious Readiness Group) with the Wisconsin when she was Reactivated for the the Gulf War. I got to watch her fire the "Big Guns"...pure awesomeness!

I never got to see a battleship in action, but the New Jersey used to keep me awake at night when I was in Vietnam. Its big guns would make quite a bang when they fired. Most of the time, it was far enough north of DaNang where I was based that we couldn't actually hear the shelling, but we could still feel the concussion. We now have a similar situation with Fort Lewis/McCord. When they are practicing at Fort Lewis, we can often feel the concussion at our house.

Maybe this has nothing to do with the thread except for the discussions on battleships. Later this month the movie "Battleship" will be released on dvd. Watch it and you'll get to see how a mothballed battleship and some mothballed sailors save the world from aliens.

That movie was horrid. We saw it as part of a double feature with MIB3 at the drive-in in Valpo. That is the only reason I watched it.

Substituting warship for battleship would have solved this problem. But Dave is right, it is just ignorance on the reporter's part.
