When I first saw this headline --- couldn't help it --- it started the tune and lyrics of that old song "I'm My Own Grandpa" rolling around in my head.

Imagine my shock, when I learned that this didn't happen anywhere's near the south!
I'll be driving through Presque Isle right around suppertime tonight. I'll be looking for rebel flags.
Kidding, kidding, kidding, kidding. Well except for the Presque Isle part, we live two towns from there.

To know and to serve God, of course, is why we're here, a clear truth, that, like the nose on your face, is near at hand and easily discernible but can make you dizzy if you try to focus on it hard. But a little faith will see you through.

It just gets complicateder and complicateder.
Would it not also be possible for a woman's mother to donate an egg to a couple if the woman was unable to produce her own? I guess a father could donate sperm to a couple as well.
I think I'll just keep giving money and love to/for the grandchildren.

It seems the heart condition that made pregnancy dangerous for the daughter has been a long-term or lifelong condition, and it is incredible that her mother had offered to carry a child for her for some time if the need arose. What an incredible relationship they must have!

I'd have LOVED to be able to make that offer! Unfortunately the daughter with the heart condition was born when I was 41. Since then, I've had a surgery to make my having another child impossible. Even without the surgery -- I'd be looking at being well over 60 before the time would come.
Eeeek! I think NOT!

Jim, I do not know you or know where you are from, but your reference to the" South" is (an insult) to the people you evidently know little about. I would expect more class than that from a Naznetter.

Whoa, Gerald. I am from the south. Alabama born, Texas raised, live in North Carolina. Oklahoma is as far north as I have ever lived -- come to think of it, the upper Texas panhandle may have been further north than that. Anyway, I have never personally met Jim, but I know enough about him from my time on Naznet to know that his comments were just northern humor. They were not meant to be taken seriously. When I read them, my reaction was chuckle out loud. If he meant to insult us, it sure flew past me.

No insult intended whatsoever, and I am sorry if you were offended. I'm fom New England although my family is from Quebec. So at heart I'm french canadian, we actually don't mind folks poking fun at us in a good natured way, we frequently poke fun at ourselves, and by extension some of this spills out. I try to be careful on naznet, specifically because I don't know everyone. This isn't always a community of friends, which is sad.
But, as I slap myself on the forehead, I'm reminded why frenchmen have flat foreheads.
I should add that the story in question takes place in Presque Isle, Maine, which is about fifteen miles from my dooryard. If you re read my post, you will see that should I actually harbor such thoughts about southerners, the joke was on me. It was actually self depreciating humor.
