    Roger Clemens - comeback kid?

50 year old Roger Clemens, freshly free of legal wranglings, returned to the mound for the Sugarland Skeeters and pitched 3 1/3 impressive innings in front of a sell out crowd. A couple of major league teams, including the hometown Astros had scouts there.

Some people hate this - calling it a publicity stunt or just another of many over-the-hill players who just can't take their millions into retirement.

Others say he's shrewd - knowing his reputation is now stained almost beyond recovery, and wanting to create a new story line and, at the same time, create a new buffer between him and a Hall of Fame vote by kicking that can down the road a few years.

What do you think of Roger Clemens latest comeback effort?

Will this postpone his HoF vote? Even if he's not in a MLB affiliated league? I guess it makes sense - any professional baseball puts it off.

Do they have HGH testing in this league he's in?
    ...just my $.02.

I think minor league play would delay the vote 2 years, but not playing for a non-affiliated team.

Just remember that the Astros owner has said he might be interested: http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2012/0...g-clemens.html

Also, he's like 1 win from moving up to #8 in all time wins, and, while it's very doubtful he could do it, but 11 wins would tie him for #5.

I love this decision all-around, especially if the Astros sign him.

    (1) Roger is my favorite pitcher ever, and I'd love to see what he can do in the MLB
    (2) The Astros have nothing to lose, and could get some money back by packing the stands one day each week.
    (3) Roger would gain another 5 years, which would give the voters enough time to wise up and vote Barry in, leading the way for Roger to get voted in.

    I love it.

I'm not sure anyone will get in who doesn't come clean.

Clemens and Bonds are the best candidates because they likely had HoF careers even without PEDs.

I assume if McGwire had only been using them towards the end of his career that would have come out already as an attempt to get him in the same way.

I'd love to see the Astros do something crazy to help Clemens get to #5, though. There's lots of things you can do to earn Wins without having to start the game or pitch a whole lot of innings. They can work the rulebook and like everyone else said, they've got nothing to lose.

If you like this, you'll be ecstatic when they thaw out Ted Williams.

He will pitch for the Astros before the season is over. That will give him 5 more years before he is eligible for the Hall of Fame.

Maybe the lad is trying to redeem his reputation as an HOF performer which will set him up better for autograph signing sessions in the hereafter meaning after he finally retires.
