    Weddings and Omelets

This weekend I had the joy of driving down to Casper, WY, where I lived prior to my current assignment in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana, for the wedding of Jeremy Hugus and Libby Tedder.

Jeremy grew up in the town of Riverton, WY, which was about 20 miles from Lander, where I grew up. He and I knew each other through the district NYI community, and we were actually both on the district all-star quiz team in 1998 that got first place at regionals (the only year that Rocky Mountain ever did so, to my knowledge). He is now an attorney in Casper.

Libby is a recent graduate from NTS. She is one of the sharpest people that I know. If you have not already heard of her, you will be hearing of her soon. God has great things in store for her.

Tom Oord, who was a big influence on both of them at NNU, came out to officiate. During the wedding, they had one of the most, um, "original" unity ceremonies that I have ever seen. Here is a video of it. (I apologize for the shaking. It was hard to get a good angle from where I was stationed.)

It was a great wedding! Beautiful ceremony, beautiful decorations, beautiful location, beautiful music, and beautiful people! It was an honor to be able to be a part of it in my own small way.

So when the gospel is diminished to a question of whether or not a person will “get into heaven,” that reduces the good news to a ticket, a way to get past the bouncer and into the club. The good news is better than that.

I know Libbie's parents, pastors at Salt Lake First. From your discription she must have had great influence from her mother and father who are terrific people whom I enjoy getting better acquainted with each Intermountain Missionary Convention.

The video was originally embedded in my post, but I actually deactivated the embedded video player by taking the "http://" off of the beginning of the link. The preview frame that showed had something that could have easily been misinterpreted, and I did not want to give anyone a bad impression. The video can been viewed by copying and pasting the following into the address field of a browser: youtube.com/watch?v=QEH-YgJLYRs It really is a very fun video if anyone knows Jeremy or Libby (and as I said previously, if you have never heard of Libby, I have no doubt that you will soon here of her).

I met her parents at the wedding. They seemed like great people!

It was adorable,.....was there some personal significance to this or just something different to do? So cute.

I'm not sure if there was supposed to be any symbolism behind it or not. Jeremy is a great cook, and Libby helps him. A few months ago, I was passing through town and stayed with him for a couple of days. After church on Sunday afternoon, he wanted to make me lunch. They made sloppy joes, and when I heard what we were having, I thought, "Hmm. Alright. I don't mind sloppy joes." But these weren't just anything. I'd seriously eat them again over most things that I've had other people make.

So I pretty much assumed that making an omelet together was pretty much just supposed to be something to do that would show unity.

Sure beats the standard two candles used to light one central candle that Kay and I did in our 1973 ceremony. But considering the fragile mental state of the groom at that wedding, I don't think anything this complex would have had a prayer of succeeding!

Two years from now, I would love to see if these two could hang wallpaper together and remain happily married
