    Pulpit Freedom

Brothers, Please Just Preach the Gospel

People aren’t stupid. If you can’t teach Biblical truth from the pulpit in such a way that your congregation knows the kinds of things to look for in a candidate then you’re doing it wrong. Remember, the part that makes this “pulpit freedom Sunday” is the actual endorsement of a particular candidate. Pastors are allowed to endorse values and to condemn sin all we like.

"Preach the gospel; if necessary use words" is like saying "feed the poor and; if necessary use food."

Well, I could start a thread about donut flavors and usually within about 5-8 Post somebody is upset because I am a Calvinist and Calvinists have no business discussing donut flavors.....

Yet, I post a Conservative Reformed response to the idiocy of "Pulpit Freedom Sunday" and it's the Hallelujah Chorus... just color me surprised that's all.

Truth is truth. I don't care who says it. The problem lies in that conservative reformed Christianity is usually so far to the fringes of orthodoxy, barely holding on, that problems arise.

First of all, I will always disagree with your ridiculous views on donut flavors, because when I bite into a donut and it has raspberry filling instead of lemon filling, your preposterous theology says I was meant to eat raspberry filling. I REJECT THEE!!!!

There are a lot of forms of apolitical Christianity. I'll agree with anyone who says endorsing a political party from the pulpit is not compatible with the Gospel, even if I disagree politically or theologically with that person.

I don't think that 'Doug' is going to cooperate.

First, Calvinists have no business discussing the selection of donuts.
Second, how much longer will you continue to be surprised when you post in this forum? I would think the surprise would wear off by now. Of course, you may just have an extremely high "surprise" threshold.

    Thanks for the article.

by the way George, do you find it odd that this condemnation of endorsement comes from a person who thinks so highly of election?

George doesn't have the foreknowledge that God has, therefore he is still subject to surprise.

I guess you are at least partly correct, I probably do have a high "surprise" threshold. Sometimes I can almost tell you what some will say in a post/response and even when I am right I am still surprised.

My surprise here is specifically the "unqualified" nature of the supporting comments. Meaning, this is the Aquila Report (read Nazareth) can anything good come out of the Aquila Report (Nazareth). What I expected, because I know that many here are sympathetic to this articles theme, was positive feedback based upon the articles theme coupled with all manner of complaint of where it came from. You know, something like "Great thought, too bad it came from.... It would have been better if..." You know like this, this is much, much more typical:

I want to see the original sources used to write this article, especially since it's on Breitbart.com.

It is really the unqualified support that surprises me here on NN in this thread anyway.

You'll have to "unpack' this abit more as you youthful types like to say, as I am not tracking. Is it humor and I am missing it? A Legit question? If so have to admit that I am too thick to make the connections.

I just don't see the connection between 'election' and the 'condemnation of endorsement.' It does sound interesting, but I am clueless. If you'd care to explain, I'd be happy to engage.

    Blessings

    Re: Pulpit Freedom

I don't see anything wrong with a preacher telling his people how we are becoming socialist country and how it will become worse if Obama is relect. I don't see anything wrong If preacher want to preach and tell his people if Obama is elect it will be a heaven on earth. We should have freedom of speech in or out the 4 wall of the church. But the idea of freedom sunday was to up against the ISA. If I would have preach last Sunday I would have told the people about freedom Sunday and what some of the pastors was doing. Then I would have taken my text and preach. I will be preaching this Sunday and who know I may mention the idea.
    Thanks

It was humor. See... the candidates are competing in an election, and the Reformed folks are fans of the doctrine of election. It's what the Tahitians call a Double Entendre.

Okay... I get it now, a little humor (very little)

Might I suggest, humbly, that Stand-Up might not be your best career choice.

You might want to read my live tweet of the debate last night before drawing such a conclusion. And besides that, I was sitting down.
