    Dr. Victor Wellington Peters

Yesterday afternoon I had the privilege of attending a memorial service/110th birthday celebration for Dr. Peters. Some of you may have seen mention of his recent passing on NCN. While I had not known him well, I had been in his home many years ago. Dr. Ron Benefiel led the service which lasted about 2 hours. After all, when one lives that long, there's a lot to share! And share they did! What a saint!

In his early years, he had gone to Korea as a missionary with the Methodist church and married a Korean woman there--possibly the first westerner to have done so. He always had a deep love for Korea and her people but the war years precluded his return.

He was on staff at L.A. First COTN and later ministered at Pasadena First COTN as well. One of his quotes was printed on the memorial handout: "My father and mother early taught me to pray and read the Scriptures. Learn the Scriptures and think of them as food."

I was deeply blessed to sit and hear about a man who had humbly and faithfully served Christ so well and so long. May we all be encouraged to follow such godly examples.

Never met Dr. Peters - knew his daughter when she and her husband pastored in Blythe, CA. Heard many wonderful things about him, though.
Thanks Grace Alexander - "thanks" for this post

I think that may have been their oldest daughter and husband (Grace and Paul Alexander). Later, they relocated to Nevada and cared for Dr. Peters in his last years of life.

Thank you, Jean Johnson, for your kind remarks re my father, Dr. Peters. So comforting - I will be sharing them with our family. Our family prayed that Dad's memorial service would be a fitting tribute to such a remarkable man who really was a saint, even in his family's eyes The program insert "Fear Thou Not" is ready for an 8x10 frame - may you be blessed by Dad's favorite scripture.
We keep in touch with the friends in Faithbuilders Class, and will drop in from time to time when we are in Pasadena. Hope to meet you sometime. God bless you!

Grace Peters Alexander, oldest daughter of Dr. Peters

John Kennedy - how did we know you in Blythe? Would you jog our memory - it's been such a long time since those Blythe years?! We are now in Las Vegas, NV at Las Vegas First Church.

Thanks, Grace, for your kind words. I was at the service along with some of the folks from the Rosemead Church who know some of your family. (I'm fairly new to the Rosemead Church). I did chat briefly with your sister, Elona. We were at Pasadena College at about the same time. I knew your mother, Ruth, because we had both worked at World Vision and was even in their home years ago--I think in the late 60s. Blessings on you and your family. Yes, it would be great to meet some time!

I moved to Blythe in 1965 when I graduated from the University of Texas - the Peales, long-time friends of my father, helped me get a teaching job there. I think you and Paul came as pastors in Feb of '66. I directed music there till I left in June of '66.

Thank you, Jean, for your reply, and sharing of our connection through Pasadena College and World Vision. Mom so loved those years she worked there.
