On the way home from church this noon

we noticed a bumper sticker on the car ahead of us that said, "I'd rather be glamping." So I had to check out what that term could mean. It seems to be a combination of glamour and camping. All the information was focused on shepherds' huts and the like in various areas of the British Isles with rather sumtuous accomodations. Perhaps Ian can enlighten us further.

I'd never heard the term. I think you're right, though. Glamorous camping. Whoda thunk.

Yeah, really ... a jewel bedecked tent is still ....................... a TENT!

(& if they talk about other than tent camping at that site, I didn't go there ... camping does not seem the correct term for a permanent dwelling that one might stay in)

That is the only way on God's green earth that you'd ever find me anywhere close to camping.

Well, I used to ... as said, owned a 10x14 tent (nice one). Last used, someone borrowed it, folded it up when not dry, apparently, and ~~ when opened when thinking about using it next time ~~ it was gross! SAD ... so, I gave up camping. Don't want another tent now, anyway.

    You haven't seen their slogan:

    "Glamping......camping....for the rest of us"

In spite of its label, it displays harshness, judgmentalism, a critical spirit, and all its capacity for discrimination end in nit-picking and divisiveness."-Mildred Bangs Wynkoop

Glamping is for men who have European carry-alls

I'm not very good at this but here's a link (I hope) to some forest chalets owned by some folk who are members of our parish. Their business is called "Ravernsbourne Forest Chalets" and they offer 5 star cabins in a forest setting. Now, from what I'm hearing, this might be the type of camping that might appeal to some of you.

weird. can't see it ... it shows in the box when not moving, but as soon as one clicks on the arrow that gets the video going, it pops up into the top 1/4" or so row. So, we found an arrow to pull it back down, but then it's stopped. Click on the "Start" again, and it recedes to where it is not seen, again. Strange .............. (using this explorer that came on the PC, b/c I want to get some DVDs and make the back-ups called for first, before DL'ing Firefox, and a bunch of other stuff.

Just found on FNS a feature article on Charleston, SC as the top tourist destination in the US and linked below was a feature article on "glamping" in locations on Vancouver Island, along Rock Creek, Montana near where my father in law had a small ranch, in Texas and Switzerland.
