The Oregon Ducks have established themselves as a very fast offensive team. They snap the ball before players on the other side of the ball know what is going on. They run no huddle and maintain a very upbeat tempo. And it works, they score about 50 points on the average. They take about 82 snaps per game. Their running game is incredibly fast too. They run around at break neck speed. DeAthony Thomas was featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated as the fastest man in football. Coach Chip Kelley is has an incredible three year record at Oregon which includes 3 PAC 10 championships, a trip to the National Championship and a Rose Bowl victory. Last night they scored 43 points in the 1st Quarter against a strong 5-1 Arizona team. The game was supposed to be close....nope! They cleared the bench in the third quarter and turned the game over to reserves. Final score 43-21 (it could have been 100-21).

Nick Saban (Alabama Coach) is already complaining about matching up to the Ducks (if it ever happens). He claims the speed factor creates unfairness. The speed with which they line up and snap doesn't give a defense a fighting chance. After two quarters of up tempo play, defenses wear down and give up points. Apparently, Saban wants everyone to huddle, line-up and snap the ball like an SEC Powerhouse. That's fine, they will score, but the up tempo teams usually end up winning the shoot out because they score faster and more often.
