    Unexpected cash from the IRS

Yesterday we received a check for $800 from the IRS we weren't expecting. Their explanation is: "We are writing to you because we made a change to your 2009 Federal Income Tax Return. Based on the information you provided on your return we have determined you are eligible to claim the Making Work Pay Credit on line 63, Form 1040 of your return and have computed your credit for you." I'm not sure what the Making Work Pay Credit is, but I like it!

It looks like we can go on vacation this year after all!

If you worked... you got a $400/person credit on your taxes last year. Lots of people saw it in their weekly paycheck by having less withheld. (Remember hearing Obama say, "US workers will see more in each paycheck this year"?)

I didn't see any difference because we're entirely self-employed... so we got the credit all at once when we did our taxes (our computer program did it for us). It was the first year in my life that I actually saw a tax refund!

    Jon,

We just received the very same check. I didn't see it coming, but I'm happy about it.

I guess I better stop anticipating the arrival of our $250 each checks because I know that they have gone to a good cause. Send food.

You mean the government will pay you just for having a job??? What will they think of next??!!
If you are bi-vocational, do you get 2 checks?
