When our firtst 6 Scout camp outs were reained on

we requested that our pastor make the following announcement at Sunday morning services: "For anyone whose lawn is suffering dehydration from our current drought conditions our Scout troop will volunteer to come camp on your lawn to try to resolve the problem." And he did make the announcement to the delight of the congregation.

From one old scout to another I know exactly what you guys were going through.

I came from 1548 of Chantilly, VA. We were known as the "All Weather Troop" because in the 25 or so years (IIRC) of the troop, having a camp out every month, only two were ever cancelled because of weather. One because the campsite was under 30ft of water when we arrived and the other because the campsite was no longer there (state park closed because of a hurricane and they wouldn't let us in).

This talk of rain reminded me of the annual trip to "Camp Big Mac" (no we didn't name it). Each year a cooking competition was held there. One year, the day after the cooking competition some of the older boys were roasting a whole chicken over the fire. The wind blew so strong that it knocked over the spit apparatus. So they decided to cut it in half, wrapping it in foil and placing it on the coals. But after an hour in the wind they noticed the chicken wasn't cooking very quickly, so they dug a hole and buried it, surrounded buy coals. But then it rained and the coals were extinguished. So we ran inside the main building and threw it in the stove, which wasn't working very well and only warmed the chicken. After that we ended up slicing the chicken and cooking it on a camp stove. I have to tell you, "Five Times Cooked Chicken" tastes amazing.

Haha. Sorry, I wasn't named after him. I was named after Benjamin Hepworth.

Doesn't matter which Benjamin you were named after. Today I cast my ballot at the Ada County early voting site near the intersection of Benjamin and Franklin.
