Participation in NazNet/NazNet Directory
All that is required to participate is to start reading. No membership is required. It is usually best to read a few of the posts to get an idea of appropriate topics for discussion. To post a message, you will need to register. Once registered, you are free to reply to an existing post or enter a new topic of discussion.
The fellowship forums are set at a specific size. When a new message it posted at the top, the thread at the bottom is automatically deleted. Generally, posts remain 10 to 20 days.
You can edit or delete your own post. Please note, it is considered poor etiquette to edit a post, changing some primary point, after people have replied to it.
The most common reason for your post not showing up is your browser not
reloading the page. It may have simply pulled it out of cache. Hit the "reload"
or "refresh" button on your browser and your post should then appear.
If you use America OnLine, you may have to wait a few minutes for the AOL proxy
browser to clear its cache as well.
NazNet is designed for optimal viewing with Netscape 3.x, MSIE 3.x, AOL 4.x, or higher.
Just click on the "registered users" link at the top of the Forum and fill in the form.
You do not need to be a member of the Church of the Nazarene to participate.
There is no set limit on how often participants may post messages on NazNet. It is suggested, though, that everyone realize that several hundred people are registered on the fellowship forums and that no one person should dominate every discussion. If you receive an e-mail or other type of notice from a Forum moderator that it might be wise for you to post a bit less please consider it to be a friendly suggestion and cooperate with the NazNet leadership.
You must be registered with your real name to post on NazNet.
If you really need to do an anonymous post, it is suggested that you email a NazNet regular in whom you have confidence and ask them to post your message for you. The post will be in their name, but it can be made clear that they are posting for someone else. The NazNet moderators are willing to help with this, but you are welcome to use anyone who agrees to work with you and keep your confidence.
Many of the participants have posted an introduction and picture in the
NazNet Directory. You can view the directory by clicking on the Directory link on NazNet Central.
You are welcome to post general fellowship messages on either the Wesley Fellowship Forum or Bresee Fellowship Forum. We do ask that you not post the same message on both forums, or post a message on one forum saying, "Please go to the other forum and read my message." Also, please don't move conversations from one forum to the other.
Here is a bit of background on the two forum approach:
The forums are set to a
specific size, so when a new message is added to the top, an old message is
deleted off the bottom. When we had just one forum there was so much
activity that messages didn't stay posted long enough for people to read
them. A second fellowship forum was added to divide up the flow of messages so they
would be available longer. The two forums are merely extensions of one
another. The same people participate on both...although Bresee Forum sees less
activity than Wesley does.
If everyone does a post on Wesley, and then
goes to Bresee to do a post saying, "everyone go to Wesley forum and read my
post" that the idea of slowing things down is defeated. Instead of dividing
up the activity that just creates double the posts.
With that in mind, we made the guidline that people are not to cross post or
move discussions from one forum to another.
The CE forum is currently off line -- it may be reactivated for discussions on the next U.S. Presidential election or some other event that generates considerable discussion.
Some NazNet topics generate considerable discussion and are better brought to their own forum where they are not lost in the hundreds of posts that are written on the NazNet Forums each week. If you are registered to post on the other Fellowship Forums, you are registered to post here. Please note, the rules of Naznet are the same here as they are elsewhere, the primary difference is that the topic is limited to current events.
Discussions on "war and peace," politics, and current events in general are welcome there.
Dave McClung writes:
Some topics, like suicide, are appropriate for discussing in a group where you
know the people in the group. On NazNet, you never know who is reading your
post. You may be engaging in a philosophical discussion with someone you
know, but the person reading may be in a situation where such a discussion
might push them over the edge. It is too great a risk to take.
