"Peace"

The word conjures up all kinds of pictures: A baby sleeping; a mountain meadow bathed in sunlight; the waters of a lake gently lapping at the shore. My picture of peace is a little different. I see a giant, hulking figure covered from head to toe in impenetrable armor with an enormous sword flashing left and right, and a massive shield scarred and dented from many battles. The giant paces back and forth, ever vigilant, warding off every enemy that tries to get past him.

Where did I get such a strange picture of peace? Well, it all right there in the Bible! "And the peace of God which passes all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (Phil. 4:7) Isn't that a wonderful picture! Peace standing guard over my life.

And where does this peace come from? Remember that little Babe in the manger who's birth we're celebrating? "And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." (Is. 9:6) Yes, He is the "peace" that is standing guard over me. But that's only the half of it!! Look at the last part of the Philippians verse, ". . . in Christ Jesus." That’s the key to this kind of peace. As a child of God I am "in Christ." And, according to Colossians 1:27, Christ is in me, too. I am surrounded and indwelt by the Prince of Peace Himself.

If you want to experience true peace this Christmas season, invite the Prince of Peace to come into your life. If you already know Him, be comforted by His presence and the peace that He brings.

"And the peace of God which passes all understanding will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus."

Prayer
Father in Heaven, thank you for the joy that comes from You as we yield our lives to You. May we, at this blessed season, remember that joy and stay focused on You. Help us to show that joy to others, that they may see You in our lives ..
Amen
