CHRISTMAS CHEER
Christmas is a time of cheer
As families gather from far and near,
The turkeys baste and the jams all bake
And the homes are filled with candy and cake;
Each home is toasty warm and bright
Filled with tree and candlelight.
In one corner stands a tree so fine
Usually fir or maybe scotch pine,
That fills up the house with gaiety grand
And covers the presents stacked round its stand;
There's such an air about this house
Where no one's stirring, not even a mouse.
How can we find within this time
An act reminiscent of God divine?
Let us silently pray
About an even one long ago day
When God came down to mix with man
And set forth the explicits of His salvation plan.
Not in a house so toasty warm and gay
But in a stall, in a manger of hay,
No tree with sparkling colorful lights
Was there to brighten that Bethlehem, night;
No food abounding with savior-faire
It seemed there was no one around to care.
But the Angels knew what had to be done
And issued announcements of the birth of the Son,
Let us take just a moment to thank God today
And ask His forgiveness of our rebellious way;
He loves us in spite of this bright worldly season
And Jesus Christ, His Son, is the reason.
