Luke 2:10 (KJV) And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. Christmas is my favorite time of year. I love all the music, decorations, parties and everything associated with the season. But, most importantly, is the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I thank God for sending His Son into the world not only to save us but also to give us the promise of eternal life. Two years before their deaths, my grandparents lived with my Mother and me. This was Christmas of 1993, the Christmas after my Grandfather had died in October. Bear in mind that my Grandmother had Alzheimer's disease to the extent that she did not know her own children nor remember that her husband of 69 years had died. We were at the Christmas program at church and everyone had a candle to light at the end of the program. The lights in the church were dimmed as the candles were being lit. Grandmother was not saying anything and was very still and quiet. It was time for us to light our candles. My Mother was first in the row to light her candle and as she lit Grandmother's we were singing "Silent Night." My grandmother was singing "Silent Night"!!!!! As I placed my candle to light from hers she looked like an angel with the golden light of the candles glowing in her face. My Grandmother who knew nothing because of this dreaded disease knew and sang all the verses to "Silent Night." PRAISE GOD!! It was a wonderful Christmas. That Christmas I knew the real JOY of Christmas. Marsha Gupton Father, Once in awhile You give us some unexpected joy. When you do, it becomes inscribed in our very being . What a pleasure to be able to hear about the joy You have given others and how wonderful it is to have it right in the middle of this beautiful season of celebration. We don't often think of it as such, but You are also a joyous Father. May our smile and our obedience to You be gifts of a joy that we can return to You. Amen [Psalms 119:49-72] [Zech. 3:1-10] [Revelation 4:1-8] [Matt. 24:45-51] or suggestions to Yvonne Edwards.
