Our Sin and God's Grace

In scripture we see God's grace in the face of our own defiance, like a speck of dust defying the heavens. In the Bible the gentle touch of a loving Savior is often contrasted with the filthy rags of our humanity. In the beginning God created everything. And in the beginning God proclaimed it all good until he cast His glory upon the man he had created, alone in the garden. Since that time rebellious sin has been the hallmark of mankind, even in the midst of God's most marvelous acts of grace.

From those gardens of great wonder to the plagues of Egypt and from receding waters to the tablets cast of stone, God's grace prevailed.

From the promised land of "milk and honey" to deaf ears towards prophet's tales and defiant sin in the throes of battle, God's grace prevailed.

From the twinkling of the brightest star, to the God who walked on dusty trails, to the message of love and sin that crucified, God's grace prevailed.

From the son of a carpenter, to the Son of man and from a Child teaching in the temple, to the Man who preached from a boat, God's grace prevailed.

From women acting out the lust of their flesh to sinful men reaching for stones, to parables of prodigal sons, God's grace prevailed.

From tax collectors to the touch of His hem, and crippled limbs lowered from rooftops by friends, God's grace prevailed.

From cups overflowing, to sleepy friends, to angry mobs yelling, "crucify Him, crucify Him", God's grace prevailed.

From hopes that died under darkened skies, to fears that were shrouded in a tomb, came a spirit that flamed a gospel proclaimed and still God's grace prevailed.

Let us pray:

Heavenly Father, during this Lenten season we ask that You help us to accept Your gift of grace and help us where we need to repent of our sins. We pray that in our weakness You will remind us to cast our eyes upon Jesus so that we might know His strength.

We thank you for all that You continue to do in our lives. Thank You for loving us beyond our capacity to comprehend. Most of all, Lord, we thank you for being our perfect Savior. How great is Your wisdom, how awesome Your love, how complete Your perfection and how beautiful Your grace. It is in Your name that we pray.

Amen.
