Off the Wall Ideas

I try to balance the program...
spiritual, physical, emotional and mental. Our Heavenly Father chose that we have all these parts and therefore; it is our responsiblity to take care of these parts. Sometimes we don't know how.
            So...
            pajama parties...
            exercise programs...
            computer classes....
            how to say, "no" classes....
            defense lessons.....
One of the best Women's Ministries nights I ever did was with about 18 ladies. On Sunday at Church I handed out brown paper bags (lunch) with an invitation to Women's Ministries glued to the front. The instructions on the invitation said to put something in the bag which said something about them...ie. a bookmark meant they liked to read, a post card meant they liked to travel, etc. They were to be "creative".
They were to bring the bag taped shut.
The night of Women's Ministries everyone gave their bags to me and I numbered them.
Then, I opened each one and the ladies had to guess who had brought what bag.
Some of the things were really creative. One woman put in a lock of long, red hair. Nobody guessed whose it was because she was 91 and completely gray now. Nobody knew that she had once had red hair. Another person put in a rug hooking tool...another person put in an airline ticket stub from their trip to Hawaii.
The ladies had a lot of fun guessing. More than that...over and over we heard the words..."I didn't know you liked to do that!" "I didn't know you had been published."..."I didn't know you liked to knit." etc. Even the shyest woman was able to share something about herself in fun and friendly way.
A prize went to the woman who had guessed the most correctly. (They wrote thier guesses on a sheet of paper beside the number of the bag.)
It was a simple, simple idea but for the rest of the year, the ladies talked about how much fun they had that evening. It is good for a "first" meeting of the year as a mixer.
BTW in The Salvation Army, Women's Ministries is a major, major thing. If you have a Salvation Army Church nearby, I guarantee they have lots of resource material that they might be able to lend you.

Here is ONE! We will never live it down!
It was the year that our men went to the Promise Keepers Meeting in Dallas.
A couple of the ladies were having a birthday. We have about the same size women's group in our church as you do.
We were told that we were to come dressed up for a '50's party!
We were all there! The place was in a home and it was decorated and so were we!! Only I didn't go fixed up! Just jeans and shirt! No make-up! Boy did I regret it!! Because we had a surprise guest that it was difficult to tell that he wasn't real.
We were told to close our eyes and not open them until told to do so...we closed our eyes, and "Love Me Tender" started playing and would you believe there was ELVIS in person!!! He sang all the old goodies like, "You Ain't Nothing But a Hounddog!" and "I Just Want To Be Your Teddy Bear!"
I felt like I was sixteen again!! He sang lots of songs to us!! We squeeled and couldn't sit still! Of course we couldn't dance!! But, did we ever have fun!
Would you believe there was a video being made which I was not paying any attention to. My preacher's wife showed that video to all the evangelists that came to our church....maybe even our DS, I'm not quiet sure!!!
But, anyway, it is sometimes fun to have a party!!! :)

Have a night carving pumpkins. Give prizes to the most creative..so on and so forth. You could do it wild! You could divide everyone into teams of four....blind-fold the carver and the rest have to give instructions without touching the pumpkin or carver.
Do the Twelve Days of Christmas for a needy family. Be creative and sneaky by placing the gifts on the door-step of the family each day.
